If you’re struggling with symptoms like chest pain, shortness of breath, or fatigue due to aortic stenosis, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) offers a life-changing solution. At One Heart Clinic, our globally recognised cardiologists specialise in TAVI, a minimally invasive procedure that replaces a narrowed aortic valve, without open-heart surgery, to help you breathe easier, move better, and live without restrictions. Our operators have performed over 2000 successful TAVI procedures, and with a 4.9/5 with an excellent Doctify rating, we’re here to support your care from the first consultation.
Book a ConsultationTAVI is a highly advanced minimally invasive procedure designed to treat severe aortic stenosis, a condition where the heart’s aortic valve narrows, restricting blood flow and straining the heart. Unlike traditional open-heart surgery, TAVI involves inserting a new valve through a small incision, usually in the groin, chest, or under the collarbone. A thin catheter carries the collapsed valve to the heart, where it’s expanded to replace the damaged valve, restoring proper blood flow in as quick as 40 minutes. This approach, endorsed by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), reduces recovery time and risks, making it ideal for those who prefer to avoid traditional open-heart surgery.
At OHC, our TAVI procedures are performed in advanced cardiac theatres by specialists like Dr. Sayan Sen, who has conducted over 1500 TAVIs and has shaped international cardiology guidelines.
Aortic stenosis occurs when calcium buildup narrows the aortic valve, forcing your heart to work harder to pump blood. This can lead to debilitating symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting, or fatigue, often worsening over time. If left untreated, severe aortic stenosis increases the risk of heart failure or sudden cardiac events. It has been shown that TAVI reduces mortality by 20% compared to medical therapy alone, as noted in a landmark study in the New England Journal of Medicine (2010).
Our expert consultants assess your suitability through a thorough evaluation, including blood tests, an electrocardiogram (ECG), echocardiogram (Echo), and a TAVI-specific CT scan. This information is presented to a multidisciplinary team that reviews your case in depth. The MDT discuss the options available to you to ensure multiple specialists agree on the chosen treatment plan. What sets OHC apart is the unique advantage of having access to the collective expertise of multiple world-leading cardiologists and surgeons as a standard part of care.

TAVI is advised and is associated with a lower risk of death than conventional surgery in most patients over the age of 80 years and should be considered in all patients over the age of 75 years (ESC guidance). It can also be suitable for younger patients with specific conditions. >80% of patients notice improvements in symptoms.
As with any procedure, TAVI carries risks, but our rigorous screening keeps complications low. The ESC guidelines note a less than 5% chance of heart attack, stroke or death and a 10% chance of needing a pacemaker, meaning over 95% of patients experience no major issues. Our team discusses all risks and benefits during your consultation, we provide an indivisualised risk specific to your condition to ensure you’re fully informed.

First, you will meet the team looking after you during your procedure and provide your consent. You will be introduced to everyone in the theatre involved in your care.
You will lie on the operating table and be given an anaesthetic. Often, patients are given light sedation rather than full anaesthesia. You may be drowsy but awake and won’t feel pain during the procedure.
Your cardiologist will begin by making a small incision in your groin to access an artery with a thin tube. The doctor guides a catheter through the artery to your heart. The new valve is placed inside your old, narrowed valve and gently expanded. It begins working immediately. The procedure usually takes around 1 hour although more complex cases can take longer.
You will then be taken to a ward to recover where you will be monitored by the inpatient team who will take care of you, answer any questions you might have, and notify you when you can go home. You will usually stay overnight, sometimes for more than one night depending on your recovery and mobility after the procedure.
TAVI at OHC offers significant benefits for patients with aortic stenosis, helping you regain your quality of life. If you’re living with chest pain and shortness of breath, TAVI can offer relief, peace of mind, and a path back to feeling like yourself again.

TAVI offers a way to feel better, live longer, and recover faster—without the challenges of traditional surgery. For many people, it can truly be life-changing.
TAVI with OHC is generally a safe procedure, especially when performed by an experienced team. Like any procedure, TAVI has some risks, though serious complications are rare. These may include:
Our team will carefully evaluate whether the benefits outweigh the risks in your individual case. One of the benefits of TAVI with OHC is our multi-disciplinary approach – you will have the input of several of the best cardiologists and minimally invasive surgeons in the world reviewing your case before a decision is made on whether to offer you the treatment.
Our consultants will assess your suitability for TAVI. While traditional heart surgery is still required for some patients, TAVI has become an excellent alternative for many patients. TAVI is especially helpful for those who are older or have other health conditions that make open-heart surgery riskier.
We pick the best from multiple types of valves, depending on your personal situation. Your consultant will confirm the valve we will use before your operation, so you are fully informed and feel comfortable with the plan for your procedure.
