Dr Oliver Guttmann is a Consultant Cardiologist for Inherited and Inflammatory Cardiovascular Diseases and Interventional Cardiology at St Bartholomew’s Hospital and Honorary Associate Professor at University College London.

Dr Guttmann consults in all areas of adult cardiology with a special interest in chest pain management and coronary intervention, including angioplasty and stenting.
He sees all patients with suspected and confirmed cardiomyopathies, especially myocarditis and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

After completing his undergraduate degree in neuroscience at Cambridge University with first-class honours in 2002, he went on to study medicine at University College London, graduating with merit in 2005. He furthered his medical training by becoming a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2008. His cardiology training was completed at esteemed institutions including the Heart Hospital, London Chest Hospital, and Barts Heart Centre, culminating in 2017. Throughout his career, he has remained committed to research, continuing to make significant contributions to the field.

Awards & publications

Dr Guttmann's research expertise is reflected in his MD (Res) degree, awarded by University College London in 2016, which focused on atrial fibrillation and stroke in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. This work was generously supported by the British Heart Foundation. He has authored numerous publications on inherited and inflammatory heart muscle diseases, risk stratification in cardiomyopathy, and outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention. Currently, Dr Guttmann serves as the Clinical Lead for the Coronary Catheter Laboratories and the Inherited Cardiovascular Diseases Unit at Barts Heart Centre.

He also contributes to the development of systematic reviews as an editor for Cochrane Heart. Additionally, he is an active member of the European Society of Cardiology's working group on pericardial and myocardial disease.
