Clinical profile

Dr Rasha Al-Lamee is an Interventional Cardiology Consultant at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and a clinical academic at Imperial College London. She has expertise in general and interventional cardiology. She is a clinical trialist and her research interests are in coronary intervention, coronary physiology and invasive intravascular assessment.

Dr Al-Lamee performs coronary angiography, complex coronary angioplasty and pacemaker implantation at the Hammersmith Hospital. She leads the cardiac rehabilitation service at Imperial NHS Trust in Ealing.

Research & teaching

Dr Al-Lamee is a world leading academic in cardiovascular research with a focus on clinical trials that impact the care of patients with coronary artery disease. She believes in the rigorous testing of clinical practice and the use of evidence-based medicine in all aspects of medical care.

She designed, conducted and led the ORBITA trial. This is one of the most widely cited clinical trials in cardiology of this decade and investigated the use of coronary angioplasty in treating stable coronary artery disease. She is lead author of the primary publication in The Lancet and the secondary publication in Circulation.

At Imperial College London she is actively involved in the development and recruitment for a number of multi-centre international clinical trials. Dr Al-Lamee has over 50 peer-reviewed publications and has presented at international Cardiology conferences worldwide throughout her clinical career.

Dr Al-Lamee is an Imperial College tutor with regular undergraduate and postgraduate teaching commitments. She enjoys training the next generation of researchers and doctors. She is a PhD and BSc supervisor to a number of students. She teaches on advanced coronary physiology and imaging courses worldwide.

Qualifications and awards

Dr Al-Lamee studied at the University of Oxford and University College London. She went onto complete her training as a junior doctor on the Barts and the London Medical rotation before being appointed as a Specialist Registrar on the North West London Cardiology rotation in 2006.

Dr Al-Lamee has thirteen years of clinical Cardiology experience. She completed three years of Interventional Fellowship training at Hammersmith Hospital in London and spent a year training in complex intervention under the supervision of Professor Antonio Colombo in Milan. She qualified as a consultant cardiologist in 2013. She was awarded a PhD from Imperial College London in 2017.
