Clinical profile

Dr Afzal Sohaib is a Consultant Cardiologist with a special interest in heart rhythm problems. He performs pacemaker and defibrillator implants, and performs ablation procedures for heart rhythm disturbances. Dr Sohaib sees his private patients at the One Heart Clinic in Harley Street, the HCA Chiswick Medical Centre and the Spire London East Hospital.

He completed his medical training at University College London in 2005, finishing in second place in the University of London Gold Medal Examination. Dr Sohaib undertook cardiology training at hospitals in North West London including Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals NHS Trust and was subsequently appointed as a Consultant in 2018 at the Bart's Heart Centre in London and Barking, Havering, and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. He completed a PhD at Imperial College studying how biventricular pacemakers deliver benefits in heart failure.

Research & teaching

Dr Sohaib has an interest in improving teaching and training in cardiology and has served on the Specialty Advisory Committee for Cardiovascular Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians which designs and oversees the delivery of cardiology training in the UK. He is a former President of the British Junior Cardiologists’ Association (BJCA) and served on the Council of the British Cardiovascular Society. He is involved in organising the ESC Congress, the world’s largest cardiology conference. He has over 30 peer reviewed published scientific articles and regularly speaks at national and international cardiology meetings.
