Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) Closure

Closure of these openings can be performed using a minimally invasive procedure via the vein at the top of the leg (femoral vein). The procedure may be guided with ultrasound and can be performed with the patient asleep (under a general anaesthetic) or under local anaesthesia.

There is a less than 2 in 100 risk of a complication developing during the procedure. Complications could include device failure, bleeding and collection of fluid around the heart, all of which can be treated.
