Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) Closure
Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) Closure

Closure of these openings can be performed using a minimally invasive procedure via the vein at the top of the leg (femoral vein).

The procedure

The procedure may be guided with ultrasound and can be performed with the patient asleep (under a general anaesthetic) or under local anaesthesia.

There is a less than 2 in 100 risk of a complication developing during the procedure. Complications could include device failure, bleeding and collection of fluid around the heart, all of which can be treated.
