Fainting (syncope) or blacking out unexpectedly is frightening, and it's the kind of symptom that deserves a proper explanation rather than a reassuring guess. The good news is that many causes of syncope turn out to be benign. However, according to research, cardiac causes account for around 15% of all fainting episodes. When a cardiac cause is present, identifying it promptly makes a real difference to outcomes.
One Heart Clinic's Syncope Diagnostic Package is designed to detect cardiac causes, get to the heart of what's causing your syncope episodes, and guide management, leaving you with a clear answer and path forward.
This package may be right for you if you:
Fainting without warning is frightening, and the uncertainty often lingers long after you have recovered. Many patients are told to step back from everyday activities like driving or swimming to limit the risk. Our Syncope Diagnostic Package can replace that worry with real answers and help you regain your independence:
Giving you confidence to enjoy life.
Our Syncope Diagnostic Package is available on a self-pay basis with fixed, all-inclusive pricing. You'll know exactly what's included and what you'll pay before you book. Booking as a package is more cost-effective than arranging each test individually.
(Saving £495 compared with booking all tests separately)
Instalment plan available 4 x monthly payments of £451, please email us at enquiries@oneheartclinic.com for more details.
If additional or alternative tests (i.e. tilt-table test) are recommended based on your symptoms or previous results, these will be explained in advance, including any extra costs, so you can decide how to proceed.
While fainting is often harmless, it can sometimes be triggered by hidden heart rhythm disturbances or structural problems that a standard, quick check might miss. Our expert cardiologists built our Syncope Diagnostic Package to look at the whole picture. By combining continuous, day-to-day heart monitoring with a deep look at your heart's structure and your overall health, we ensure nothing is overlooked so you can finally get a definitive answer.
You'll meet your cardiologist for a thorough review of your episodes, symptoms, medical history, and risk factors. It's the foundation for everything that follows.
A quick, non-invasive recording of your heart's electrical activity, used to detect rhythm problems or conduction abnormalities. Painless and completed in a few minutes.
Screens for non-cardiac triggers including anaemia, thyroid problems, and blood glucose imbalances. These are often overlooked causes that are entirely treatable once identified.
Real-time, non-invasive ultrasound imaging that rules out structural causes such as valve disease or thickening of the heart muscle, ensuring no stone is left unturned.
A small, discreet, wearable device records your heart rhythm continuously for 7 days. This raises the detection rate for elusive rhythm disturbances to 70-80%, compared to less than 20% with a single ECG.
You'll return for a comprehensive review with your cardiologist. Findings will be explained clearly. You'll leave with a diagnosis if appropriate, and personalised plan, whether that's reassurance, lifestyle guidance, medication or treatment/
Every patient at One Heart Clinic is seen by an experienced consultant cardiologist with expertise in heart rhythm disorders which means your results are interpreted by someone with the specialist knowledge to give you genuinely useful, accurate guidance.
Our consultants hold substantial NHS and academic experience, contribute to research and guideline development, and receive consistently high patient ratings on platforms such as Doctify. Where ambulatory monitoring does identify a sustained rhythm disorder requiring treatment, we have direct pathways into specialist electrophysiology services, so onward care is coordinated without delay.
Your heart health is in the hands of OHC’s renowned cardiologists and surgeons, whose expertise shapes global standards.
Our ConsultantsSyncope is the medical term for fainting – a brief loss of consciousness caused by a temporary drop in blood flow to the brain. It resolves quickly on its own, and many causes are benign, but finding out which category you are in is always the right approach.
Symptoms of syncope vary between individuals. Most people experiencing fainting episodes will experience symptoms before and after. Just before the syncope episode it is common to experience blurry vision, seeing spots, feeling weak and lightheaded, and changes to body temperature such as coming over hot or cold. Although it varies widely, recovery from syncope is usually around 20-30 seconds but you may feel unwill for a few minutes after.
A syncope episode can be caused by many different underlying conditions and triggers. It could be as simple as dehydration or medication side effects. Syncope episodes can also be triggered by emotional distress, reflexes like coughing or sneezing, and standing up. In some cases, it may be caused by a serious underlying condition such as valvular disease, or arrhythmia. As the causes can be so broad it is important to rule out anything serious as early as possible. Syncope treatment will depend on the underlying cause.
Not always, but it should always be properly investigated. Most episodes have benign causes, most commonly a vasovagal response. However, some are caused by heart rhythm disturbances that benefit from treatment, and the only way to know for certain is to look properly.
Vasovagal syncope is the most common form of fainting, occurring when the nervous system overreacts to a trigger such as prolonged standing, heat, or anxiety, causing a brief drop in heart rate and blood pressure. It's not dangerous in itself, but it's important to confirm this as the cause rather than assume it.
Possibly, which is why a thorough assessment matters. Cardiac causes include abnormally slow or fast heart rhythms, conduction blocks, and structural problems such as valve disease. The good news is that many are very manageable once identified.
A resting ECG captures just seconds of heart activity. However, if your rhythm disturbance is intermittent, it's very unlikely to occur during that one small window. Seven days of continuous recording gives your cardiologist a far greater chance of capturing an episode and matching it to your symptoms.
A normal result is genuinely informative. Your cardiologist will review your full clinical picture and advise whether further investigation is warranted, or whether the evidence points clearly towards a benign cause.
A test that investigates whether changes in posture are triggering your episodes. It is not part of the standard package but is available if your cardiologist recommends it following your results.
Your cardiologist will explain the diagnosis and discuss your options clearly. Treatment may mean medication, a pacemaker, or an ablation procedure. At One Heart Clinic, we have direct access to specialist electrophysiology services so onward care is seamless.
Feeling well between episodes is typical of syncope, including those caused by cardiac concerns. The absence of ongoing symptoms doesn't mean there is no underlying cause, which is precisely why investigation matters even when you feel perfectly normal in between episodes.
A vasovagal faint is the most common cause, and your GP may well be right. But "probably" is not the same as "confirmed". If you would like genuine certainty and peace of mind rather than reassurance based on likelihood, our Syncope package gives you just that.
DVLA rules apply following certain episodes of loss of consciousness. Your cardiologist will advise you on any notification requirements at your consultation. Please don't drive until you have had that conversation.
No. You can self-refer directly for this package. If you have previous test results, a GP letter, or a referral from an occupational health provider, please do share these with us ahead of your visit. They can be helpful, but they're not required.
Yes. We work with Chrysalis Finance to offer installment plans, subject to status and credit checks, with flexible deposit options and payments spread over several months or years. Please email enquiries@oneheartclinic.com for more information.
