Mr Roberto Casula

Career

Dr Roberto Casula is a Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic surgeon at the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London, a position he has held for the past 18 years, and is one of the most experienced consultants in the UK.

Having graduated at Padova University Medical School, Italy in 1989, Dr Casula then trained in the UK in Cardiac, Thoracic Surgery and Thoracic Organs Transplantation. He is registered with the GMC (no.: 4003801) and a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Over the last 15 years Dr Casula has been honoured to be invited as a visiting surgeon and has personally performed traditional, minimal access and robotic cardiac operations in other European countries and prestigious cardiac centres including Milan, Bologna, Bari, Florence, Pisa, Udine, Athens, the Middle East and West Indies.

Since his first consultant appointment in 1998 Dr Casula has carried out over five thousand major cardiac operations, and performed the entire spectrum of cardiac surgical procedures including reoperations, complex isolated or multiple valves combined procedures, coronary revascularisation and atrial fibrillation surgery.

Pioneering Surgery

Dr Casula has successfully pioneered both robotic-enhanced and minimal access cardiac surgery in the UK since 2001 and has been responsible for the robotic cardiac surgical clinical program for the Imperial College at St Mary’s Hospital and the Minimal access cardiac surgical program at Hammersmith Hospital since 2010. As part of this program he regularly carries out minimal access mitral, aortic, tricuspid surgery and minimal access atrial fibrillation surgery as part of an hybrid approach.
